- Beauty for a Better Life (BFBL) empowers women to change their future for the better through a career in the hairdressing and beauty industry
- BFBL has helped over 120 women since it was launched by L’Oréal Malaysia in 2016
- 30 aspiring women will undergo three months of intensive hairdressing training with L’Oréal Academy and Bambang Soteto’s Faculty of Hairtistry Academy
L’Oréal Malaysia has announced its partnership with WOMEN:girls, a non-profit organisation, to re-launch their Beauty for a Better Life (BFBL) program in 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Beauty for a Better Life is a vocational training founded by L’Oréal Fondation, based on the belief that women who possess knowledge and skills have the ability to make positive changes in their lives. The program helps disadvantaged women to learn hairdressing and beauty skills from industry experts.

L’Oréal Malaysia launched the program locally in 2016 and has helped over 120 women through establishing new training centres, training the trainers, providing motivational training, holding masterclasses with L’Oréal Professionel, and assisting in job matching after participants graduate.
The 2022 intake welcomes 30 participants for a three-month intensive training with L’Oréal Academy and Bambang Soteto’s Faculty of Hairtistry Academy. As the program prioritises women from disadvantaged backgrounds, 72% of them come from B40 families, 17% do not have access to pursue higher education, and 11% are currently unemployed.

Tomas Hruska, L’Oréal Malaysia Managing Director says “As a leader in the beauty industry, L’Oréal Malaysia believes that we can make meaningful changes for our communities. We are committed to empowering women in need because everyone deserves to take charge of their future. Beauty for a Better Life provides education and new skillsets, so that these aspiring women can earn a sustainable income for better livelihood.”
“WOMEN:girls are ever committed to support women and children to chart the best lives and future for themselves. We are delighted to partner with L’Oréal Malaysia for the Beauty for a Better Life program as we see our visions align. Through the screening process, we interviewed women from various facets of life – women with lack of and limited access to formal education, homemakers, mothers and single mothers – but what they all have in common is the lack of opportunity to progress in life, even though they all have the undying courage within them to go after their dreams in the beauty and hairdressing world. They just need someone to believe in them enough to give them a life-changing opportunity and that is where WOMEN:girls and L’Oreal come in. The program allows women to learn a skillset, earn a sustainable income and directly contribute to the beauty industry,” adds Izza Izelan, Executive Director at WOMEN: girls.
