An animated series based on Final Fantasy IX co-produced and co-developed by Square Enix Co. and French animation company Cyber Group Studios is reportedly in the works, with the Paris-based studio in charge of worldwide distribution and merchandise licensing activities.

Despite there being not much details at this current stage, Cyber Group Studio CEO Pierre Sissman has revealed that they are putting the final touches to the ‘series bible’ before with plans to pitch it to broadcasters in the coming months, and are aiming for a production to begin by the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.

The adventure animation series will pander to a younger audience aged between 8 to 13-years-old, and tells the tale of a young thief who kidnaps a princess to then team up with her to save the kingdom from the forces of evil.

In other news, Square Enix recently announced the release of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin with a limited-time demo for PS5 at this year’s E3 to varying reviews.
