Japanese watch manufacturer Seiko has tapped Studio Ghibli for its latest collaborative piece inspired by the famed animation studio’s 1986 classic ‘Castle In The Sky.’ The watch houses many key elements in its design reminiscent of the movie that makes it the perfect collector’s item for fans of the animation powerhouse.

Made by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa, this 40.5mm stainless steel timepiece boasts a reproduction of the mystical levitation crystal worn by the movie’s heroine on the enamel dial and powered by a new version of Seiko’s high-performance Caliber 6R31, while the dual-curved sapphire crystal glass face is treated with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface that delivers high legibility from any angle. Turning the watch over reveals an exquisite illustration of Laputa itself etched into the caseback with the spell “Leetay Latuparita Ulus Aria Los Balu Netoreel,” or “Save me and revive the eternal light.”

The Studio Ghibli x Seiko Presage watch comes in a presentation box and a special message from co-founder of the renowned animation studio, Hayao Miyazaki. The timepiece will be available as a limited edition piece of 1,200 units on Seiko’s website and at select retailers worldwide from July 2021.
